Info | REILLY, James Bernard, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Pinedale, West Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County, Pa., August 12, 1845; attended the public schools and was graduated from the Bunker Hill School, Pottsville, Pa., in 1862; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1869 and commenced practice in Pottsville; district attorney of Schuylkill County 1871-1875; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1879); resumed the practice of law in Pottsville, Pa.; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1880; unsuccessful candidate for law judge of Schuylkill County in 1881 and again in 1882; unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress; elected to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second, and Fifty-third Congresses (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1895); chairman, Committee on Pacific Railroads (Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1894 to the Fifty-fourth Congress; United States marshal for the eastern district of Pennsylvania 1896-1900; again resumed the practice of law in Pottsville, Pa.; unsuccessful candidate for justice of the superior court in 1913; died in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pa., May 14, 1924; interment in St. Patrick’s No. 3 Cemetery.
