Info | CHAPMAN, Henry, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Newtown, Pa., February 4, 1804; attended Doylestown Academy and Doctor Gummere’s private boys’ school near Burlington, N.J.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced practice in Doylestown; member of the State senate in 1843; judge of the fifteenth judicial district 1845-1849; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1859); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1858; judge of the Bucks County Court in 1861; retired in 1871; died at “Frosterley,” near Doylestown, Bucks County, Pa., April 11, 1891; interment in the graveyard of Doylestown Presbyterian Church.
