| Info | MOORE, Arthur Harry, a Senator from New Jersey; born in Jersey City, N.J., July 3, 1879; attended the public schools and Cooper Union College, New York City; stenographer; graduated from the New Jersey Law School at Newark; was admitted to the bar in 1922 and commenced practice in Jersey City, N.J.; secretary to the mayor of Jersey City 1908-1911; city collector 1911-1913; commissioner of Jersey City 1913-1925; Governor of New Jersey 1926-1928, 1932-1934; attained national prominence when, as governor, he took charge of the investigation into the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby in 1932; elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served from January 3, 1935, to January 17, 1938, when he resigned, having been elected governor; Governor of New Jersey 1938-1940; resumed the practice of law in Jersey City, N.J.; died in Branchburg Township, Somerset County, N.J., November 18, 1952; interment in New York Bay Cemetery, Jersey City, N.J.
