InfoStephanie T. Bolden is the second African American female to serve on Wilmington City Council, and the only female on Council for eight consecutive years. She was first elected in 1992, and re-elected in 1996, 2000 and 2004.

She is a native of Wilmington, a foster mother, school teacher, a community fighter for the rights of people, a fighter against drugs and other criminal activities, and she is a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Stephanie is a 1965 graduate of Howard High School. She graduated from Delaware State College (now University) in 1969 and earned a Master’s degree in Urban Education at Boston College.

Employment has taken her to Bermuda, Boston, and our nation’s capitol. Her love for Wilmington brought her back in 1981 to work at her high school alma mater. She later became Executive Director of Eastside Substance Abuse Awareness Program.

In her constant fight against the sell and usage of illegal drugs, most recently Stephanie initiated the successful “Drug Mug” program in 2004, designed to deter “outsiders” from coming into Wilmington to buy their drugs, and to curtail drug sales. She founded the Burton-Phelan Memorial Scholarship program for matriculating college students in the 3rd District, and she has coordinated numerous trips and facade programs for youth and their families. Her civic responsibilities included board memberships on the Governor’s Health Committee, Project Stay Free, Howard High School of Technology Alumni Association and Sojourner’s Place.

Her energy level is phenomenal, juggling her employment and going beyond the classroom to involve them in community outreach, serving as Councilwoman for the 3rd District, her church commitments, and yes, working at Boscov’s during the holidays.
