Info | HOWE, Albert Richards, a Representative from Mississippi; born in Brookfield, Worcester County, Mass., January 1, 1840; pursued classical studies; enlisted in the Union Army in 1861 as a private in the Forty-seventh Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and was promoted through the ranks to major until his discharge on November 30, 1865; settled in Como, Panola County, Miss., in 1865 and engaged in cotton planting; member of the Mississippi constitutional convention in 1868; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1868; appointed treasurer of Panola County in 1869; member of the State house of representatives 1870-1872; elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress (March 4, 1873-March 3, 1875); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1874 to the Forty-fourth Congress; moved to Illinois in 1875 and engaged in the brokerage business in Chicago, where he died June 1, 1884; interment in Brookfield Cemetery, Brookfield, Mass.
