Info | I believe that in reviewing the information you will have a better understanding of who I am and why I am the right person to be the next Sheriff of Jackson County.
I am running for Sheriff because I believe the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is in need of change both in leadership and direction. In the past the Department has worked minimally with elected officials and other law enforcement agencies, failed to address the backlog of thousands of warrants, and does not have a state-of-the-art emergency operation plan. My pledge is to: positively and collaboratively facilitate this change; raise the level of professionalism; work more closely with other police agencies and other elected officials (particularly the Jackson County Legislature); and most importantly, be more responsive in serving the citizens of Jackson County. I believe my experience and education are key ingredients to affect changes within the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and make me the best candidate for the position.
I have thirty (30) years of law enforcement background: twenty-six (26) years with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD), retiring as a Police Major in 1997; and 3 ½ years as the Police Chief of Grain Valley, Missouri, from April 1998 to October 2001. While with the KCPD, I began as a Police Officer in 1970, was promoted to Sergeant in 1982, Captain in 1985 and Major in 1990. My career in Kansas City and Grain Valley has provided me with a proven background in leadership, administration and problem solving. I also have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice and a Master of Arts Degree in Management and have attended the F.B.I. National Academy, which is considered the West Point of Law Enforcement. Attendance to the F.B.I. National Academy is by invitation only.
The most important asset of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is the men and women that perform all the day-to-day activities that are required of the organization. When elected, I will solicit all of their input to formulate a plan of action that would provide a road map to change the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department into one of the premier Sheriff’s Department in the State of Missouri.
Thank you for your interest. I ask for your support, and I am most appreciative of any contribution you can make to my campaign.
