Infooan Welsh of Rockport has announced she is running for the District 46 seat, to represent citizens of Camden and Rockport in the Maine House of Representatives. The seat is being vacated by Dave Miramant, who is now running for State Senate. She is running as a clean election candidate.

“I am excited to bring my twenty-eight years of experience to Maine’s state legislature. As an executive in organizations with budgets of $100,000 to $15 million, I have met the challenges faced by small businesses with growing expenses and limited revenues.”

Welsh, who has lived in midcoast Maine for more than 16 years, believes our local economy holds great potential. “I believe Maine can do more with less, while protecting our way of life and environment,” said Welsh. “Maine’s small population and large geography offer special challenges, yet the values we all share as Mainers serve us well,” she says.

“I want to put my experience to work - bringing together diverse interests to find middle ground solutions that address the challenges facing Maine and the district today,” said Welsh.

Welsh has led educational institutions including Outward Bound and Rockport College, a conservation organization – the Natural Resources Council of Maine, and a human service agency in Colorado back in the 1980’s.

As a volunteer, Welsh has served on the board of directors of Common Good Ventures, the Maine Development Foundation, Maine Women’s Fund, and The Riley School. She is a current board member of The Maine Media Workshops, Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and is Chair of the Knox County Committee for the Maine Community Foundation.

Welsh received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado and is a graduate of Leadership Maine’s program to prepare statewide leaders to shape Maine’s changing economy.

Welsh is the mother of three grown children, grandparent of six, and daughter of a still-vital ninety-three-year-old. “Because my family and friends span a broad range of ages, I am in touch with the importance of education for our children, care for elders in our community, affordable health care for all, and opportunities for continuing education for Maine citizens.”

“I look forward to the opportunity to serve my community by working to help the area realize its economic potential, and protect the environment and way of life that makes Maine, Maine.”
