Info | Rick began his boatbuilding experience as an Industrial Arts teacher and did his first major boat restoration in 1974. A continuous series of major restorations and new construction with both wood and fiberglass has continued right up to the present. These boats range in size from 28’ up to 55’. Hands-on experience in all phases of construction and system installations has given Savage a unique insight into the potential problems as well as recognition of quality and value found in both power and sailing vessels.
As the owner/operator of his own passenger vessel business for the past 25 years, the understanding of ABYC recommended practices, the Federal Code of Regulations, and Coast Guard requirements for commercial and recreational vessels are considered most valuable for one involved in the marine surveying business. Continuing education and attending major product seminars keep him up to date with fellow marine surveyors, new product information, updates of boating regulations and safety requirements, and the latest in design and building techniques found within the boat building industry.
Owners who are having new vessels constructed frequently seek out Rick for ongoing advice and project management. Detailed progress reports and photos are provided throughout the process, with follow up for any needed changes and additions.
Savage has been a marine surveyor for over twenty years, and is recognized by the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) as an Accredited Marine Surveyor (#774). His reports are recognized as being promptly delivered, thorough, concise, and confidential.
