InfoA former two-term trustee for the Calgary Catholic Separate School District, Cathie Williams left her position after six years to run as an Alberta Liberal candidate in the 2008 election because she wanted to make a difference for all Albertans.

Cathie and her husband John (recently passed) raised their three sons in the Willowpark/Lake Bonavista area. As a long time resident and property owner, Cathie is well aware of the community concerns that she hopes to serve. Prior to starting her family and before her election to the school board, Cathie was CFO for a mid-sized group of companies in Edmonton.

Cathie brings with her an impressive record of achievement and community involvement. Aside from her work as a school trustee, Cathie spent ten years volunteering at the Calgary Learning Centre, seven of which were on the Board of Directors. She has also spent fifteen years as a member of the organizing committee for the Peter Gzowski Golf Invitational, a national organization that raises funds for literacy programs.

In 1999, Cathie received a certificate of appreciation from the City of Calgary recognizing her exceptional record as a volunteer in the community. Two years later, in 2001, Cathie was honored by the Calgary Learning Centre for outstanding service. As a trustee with the Calgary Catholic Separate School District, she was elected vice-chair for two years. During her last term, Cathie was elected chair of the board for three consecutive years.

If elected, Cathie promises to focus on strengthening the health care system, addressing the concerns with funding and facilities in K-12 public education, improving access to post-secondary, tackling the substantial infrastructure deficit in Calgary and providing locally elected boards/councils with more autonomy in dealing with their mandates.

In her spare time, Cathie enjoys gardening, reading and the arts with all that they have to offer.
