Info | TURNER, Charles Henry, a Representative and Doorkeeper from New York; born in Wentworth, Grafton County, N.H., May 26, 1861; attended the common schools; moved to New York City in November 1879; attended Columbia College, New York City, 1886-1888; engaged in the ice business; unsuccessful candidate for State senator in 1888; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Frank T. Fitzgerald (December 9, 1889–March 3, 1891); was not a candidate for renomination in 1890; elected Doorkeeper of the United States House of Representatives for the Fifty-second Congress (December 8, 1891–September 5, 1893); studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1897 and commenced practice in Washington, D.C.; lawyer; appointed assistant district attorney for the District of Columbia, July 16, 1903–September 1, 1911; appointed special assistant to the United States attorney for the District of Columbia, November 27, 1911, and served until his death in Wentworth, N.H., August 31, 1913; interment in Wentworth Cemetery.
