Info | CHRISTOPHERSON, Charles Andrew, a Representative from South Dakota; born in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, Minn., July 23, 1871; attended the public schools of Amherst Township, Minn., and Sioux Falls (S.Dak.) Business College and Normal School; moved to Sioux Falls, S.Dak., in 1890; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1893 and commenced practice in Sioux Falls, S.Dak.; member of the board of education of Sioux Falls 1908-1918, serving as president 1911-1915; member of the board of directors of the Union Savings Association in 1912 and was subsequently elected president; member of the State house of representatives 1912-1916, serving as speaker during his last term; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth and to the six succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1919-March 3, 1933); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1932 to the Seventy-third Congress and for election in 1934 to the Seventy-fourth Congress; reengaged in the practice of law in Sioux Falls, S.Dak., until September 1936, and was also interested in the banking business; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1944; served as State administrator of the War Savings staff in 1941-1943; executive manager of the State war finance committee; in 1944 became chairman of the Advisory Committee of the United States Savings Bond Division; died in Sioux Falls, S.Dak., November 2, 1951; interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
