Info | WILLIAMSON, John Newton, a Representative from Oregon; born near Junction City, Lane County, Oreg., November 8, 1855; attended the country schools; attended Willamette University, Salem, Oreg.; moved to Prineville, Oreg., and engaged in livestock raising; sheriff of Cook County 1886-1888; member of the State house of representatives 1888-1898; served in the State senate 1900-1902; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1903-March 3, 1907); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1906; engaged in stock raising and agricultural pursuits; appointed postmaster at Prineville, Cook County, Oreg., March 21, 1922; reappointed on May 18, 1926, and served until June 30, 1934, when he retired to his farm in Central Oregon; died in Prineville, Oreg., August 29, 1943; interment in the Masonic Cemetery.
