Info | ADAMS, John Joseph, a Representative from New York; born in Douglas Town, Province of New Brunswick, Dominion of Canada, September 16, 1848; attended the local school; came to the United States and settled in New York City in 1864; engaged as a clerk with a dry-goods firm until 1874; was graduated from Columbia Law School in 1876; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in New York City; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1887); was not a candidate for renomination in 1886; resumed the practice of law in New York City and died there February 16, 1919; interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
