InfoBRODERICK, Case, (cousin of David Colbreth Broderick and Andrew Kennedy), a Representative from Kansas; born near Marion, Grant County, Ind., September 23, 1839; attended the common schools; moved to Holton, Jackson County, Kans., in 1858 and engaged in agricultural pursuits; during the Civil War enlisted as a private in the Second Kansas Battery in 1862 and was mustered out at Leavenworth in August 1865; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1870 and commenced practice in Holton, Kans.; mayor of Holton in 1874 and 1875; prosecuting attorney of Jackson County 1876-1880; member of the State senate 1880-1884; appointed by President Arthur as an associate justice of the supreme court of the Territory of Idaho in March 1884 and took up his residence in Boise City, Idaho; served until the fall of 1888, when he returned to Holton, Kans., and resumed the practice of law; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-second and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1891-March 3, 1899); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1898; again engaged in the practice of law in Holton, Kans.; retired from the practice of law and devoted his time to farming and livestock interests; died in Holton, Kans., April 1, 1920; interment in Holton Cemetery.
