InfoMatt grew up in the Redland area outside of Oregon City and attended Gladstone High School. After graduating, Matt attended Clackamas Community College where he won a National Junior College National title in wrestling.

Lindland attended the University of Nebraska on a wrestling scholarship.

Matt Lindland was a silver medalist in wrestling at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and again at the 2001 World Championships.

Before he competed in the Olympics, Lindland made national news by suing to insure his spot on the US Olympic team. Matt sued, because in the finals of the United States Olympic trials, he lost unfairly to Keith Sieracki, who violated the rules by tripping Lindland. (Under the rules of Greco-Roman wrestling, athletes are not permitted the use of their legs for advantage or defense of offensive moves.)

After appealing, an arbitrator ordered a rematch for Lindland and Sieracki, in which Lindland won 8-0. The USOC, however, sought to keep Sieracki on the team and appealed in federal court. First a federal district judge, then a three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided in Lindland’s favor.

One of the world’s top middleweight athletes, Matt Lindland is a veteran of the UFC, International Fight League and Bodog Fight. In a heavily touted match, Matt fought a much heavier Russian fighter on the Russian’s home turf. The match was such a major event that Putin himself attended the fight and had his picture taken with Lindland.

Matt has always been willing to test his skills against the elite fighters in his field. Lindland, 20-5, has moved up from his natural weight class on multiple occasions, including a split-decision loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson and a bout with top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko.

Lindland is currently the head coach of the IFL’s Portland Wolfpack, boasting a lineup replete with Team Quest fighters.

Matt has lived in the rural areas in and around House District 52 for most of his life, currently living in Eagle Creek with his wife and their two teenage children, James and Robin.

Matt owns Team Quest MMA Fitness in Gresham, as well as SportFight (www.sportfight.tv), Oregon’s first sanctioned MMA promotion. Lindland co-founded SportFight in 2003 with former world heavy-weight champion Randy Couture and successfully advocated for the sanctioning of mixed martial arts in Oregon.

Matt also owns his own equipment and apparel line used and worn by elite athletes in the sport fighting industry.
