| Info | Todd Gloria was elected as San Diego’s 37th mayor in 2020. The son of a gardener and hotel maid, his lifelong public service career was inspired by something they taught him when he was young: If you care about something, then you should leave it better than you found it.
As San Diego’s mayor, that’s exactly what he’s doing. This fiscal year alone the City is repairing 283 miles of streets—over 40% more than the prior fiscal year. The City opened nine new parks in 2022 and completed upgrades on 15 more. From new fire stations to improved libraries and repaired sidewalks, the evidence of Todd’s commitment to the people of San Diego can be found right in your own neighborhood.
Todd brings a wealth of experience to his job as Mayor. He served two terms on the San Diego City Council ( 2008-2016) and was elected City Council President by his colleagues in 2012. Todd took over as Interim Mayor upon the resignation of Bob Filner and is widely credited with restoring the public’s trust in City government. Todd also served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2020 and rose to a leadership position as Assistant Majority Whip and then Majority Whip.
Todd is a third-generation San Diegan of Filipino, Dutch, Puerto Rican, and Native American descent. He lives in Little Italy with his partner, Adam, and their dog, Diego.
