Info | PHELPS, William Wallace, a Representative from Minnesota; born in Oakland County, Mich., June 1, 1826; attended the country schools; was graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1846; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1848 and commenced practice; register of the United States land office at Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minn.; upon the admission of Minnesota as a State into the Union was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress and served from May 11, 1858, to March 3, 1859; resumed the practice of his profession in Red Wing, Minn.; died in Spring Lake, Ottawa County, Mich., August 3, 1873; interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing, Minn.
