Info | Barbara Miller-Williams was appointed to the Erie County Legislature on March 1, 2007, to serve as the representative of the 3rd Legislative District in the City of Buffalo. Having only been in office for 60 days Legislator Miller-Williams played an instrumental role in approving plans to bond for expansion and improvements at the three Erie Community College campuses. Prior to her appointment, in January 1995, she was appointed to serve as the Ellicott District Council Member on the Buffalo Common Council and was elected to the position in November 1995. Legislator Miller-Williams was a Homeland Security Coordinator and Community Police Coordinator with the Buffalo Police Department. During her tenure with the Buffalo Police Department, Legislator Miller-Williams enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and currently serves as a Master Sergeant with the 98th Division Headquarters in the Manpower Force Development Section and as a Course Manager/Senior Instructor with the 98th/ 8th Battalion and the 104th Division.
Legislator Miller-Williams earned a degree in criminal justice and business administration and a master's degree in student personnel administration. She continues to pursue higher education and strives to earn a Ph.D in criminology. As lifelong resident of the City of Buffalo, she is the proud parent of two daughters and a granddaughter. She is currently assigned to the Training Academy as a School Resource Officer with the BPD and remains active within the education field with the Buffalo Public Schools. An advocate for progressive community improvement agendas and crime prevention initiatives, Legislator Miller-Williams continues to support area block clubs and community based organizations in various capacities.
Some of her many awards for community activism include her first award as Erie County Legislator, the Sojourner Truth Community Achievement Award; the Black Achievers in Industry Award, Women for Effective Change Golden Flame Award, Afro-American Police Leadership Award, Langston Hughes Institute Commemorative Award, William Emslie YMCA Outstanding Support Award, F. Cecil Brown Democratic Club Award, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Buffalo Alumni Chapter Community Service Award, Pratt Willert Community Center Certificate of Appreciation, 93.7 WBLK Professional of the Month Award, Los Tainos Anna Cotton Award, True Bethal Invisible Soldier Award, Pan Am 2001 Uncrowned Queen Award and the Afro-American Police Trail Blazer Award.
