| Info | Michael J. Murphy was first elected in a special election in 1989, and now is serving his fifth term as 10th District alderman. Prior to his election, he was a legislative assistant to the district's alderman, serving in that position for five years.
Alderman Murphy was born on February 17, 1962 in Milwaukee. A lifelong city resident, he is the first son of Irish immigrants to be born in America. Alderman Murphy attended Hi Mount and St. Catherine's elementary schools and graduated from Milwaukee's Madison High School in 1980.
Alderman Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee in 1986 and has completed graduate course work towards a Master's Degree in Public Administration.
Alderman Murphy has been an active member in the West Side Democratic Party and served on various charitable and community organizations, such as the Cold Spring Park Neighborhood Association, the Irish Cultural Center, Bluemound Interfaith Council, and Campaign For Our Children.
