Info | Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs (1918–35)
Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia (1921–22)
President of Czechoslovakia (1935–38, 1940–45 [in exile], 1945–48)
Beneš was nominated for his contribution to Czech independence and for developing an international organization based on the Covenant of the League of Nations. In Paris he and Masaryk formed a propaganda organization that eventually became a Czechoslovak provisional government. With the collapse of Austria-Hungary in November 1918, a new Czechoslovak state was quickly formed. Beneš became Foreign Minister of the new government. Beneš contributed to the preparation of the Geneva Protocol, the basis for the negotiations in Locarno.
