Info | Mayor Ed Eilert served on the City Council from 1977 through April 1981. From April 1981 until April 2005, he was mayor of Overland Park.
During his tenure, first as councilmember and then as mayor, the City of Overland Park achieved both local and national prominence, developing into one of the United States premiere “EDGE Cities.” Mayor Eilert’s work, leadership, and his personal strength established him as a leader unparalleled in the metropolitan area. He often was the rally point for significant regional initiatives.
Inside and outside the city, others looked to him for guidance and leadership.
Among the long list of personal attributes Mayor Eilert brought to the table, the most important was his unwavering integrity. He steadfastly upheld the highest ethical standards and demanded the organization that he led be an example in ethical municipal government. Don Pipes, former city manager, often could be heard commenting on the mayor: “No matter what, he will always do the right thing.”
Because of his leadership, his high ethical standards and his commitment to integrity, Mayor Ed Eilert leaves “A Legacy of Excellence.”
