Info | Jehan Gordon graduated from Limestone High School in Bartonville, Illinois, and attended Parkland Community College and the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana where she majored in Speech Communications. After college, Jehan worked at the Small Business Development Center at Bradley University before deciding to enter public service by becoming an AmeriCorp VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) worker at Illinois Central College. There she worked with a variety of faith-based and community- based organizations developing relationships and identifying funding opportunities for programs benefiting the community.
After her service with the AmeriCorps VISTA program, she was hired by Illinois Central College to coordinate retention programs to ensure that students are successful in school. Still employed by Illinois Central College, Jehan also serves as the Chairperson of Peoria’s Promise at ICC – an initiative spearheaded by Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis to ensure that every resident of Peoria County has the opportunity to receive an education free of charge at the College. Jehan also developed and directs the Emerging Leaders program that connects college students with mentors in various professional fields. She also co-teaches a psychology course at the College.
Jehan is a graduate of Senator Barack Obama’s campaign and leadership training program and the Peoria Chamber of Commerce’s Political Leadership School. She currently serves on the Pleasant Hill School District #69 Board and its policy committee. She also volunteers for Junior Achievement and serves on the board of Friends of People With Aids.
With her service and work experience with diverse populations, community groups, and the educational community, Jehan is uniquely qualified to represent the interests of the residents of the 92nd District.
