| Info | Kevin Menicoche was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories as the Member for Nahendeh in December 2003 and then re-elected in October 2007 to the 16th Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Menicoche served as the Minister of Transportation and the Minister responsible for the Public Utilities Board. He also served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Accountability and Oversight during his time as a Regular Member.
Mr. Menicoche was born in October 1961 and raised in Fort Simpson, NT. He grew up on the land, hunting and trapping with his parents, Philip and Lucy Bonnetrouge. The traditional, cultural, and spiritual values learned from the experience continue to guide him today.
Mr. Menicoche's early education years were spent at Lapointe Hall while attending Thomas Simpson School in Fort Simpson. He also attended PWK High School in Fort Smith, while at Grandin College. Mr. Menicoche attended the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, a renowned international school in Victoria, British Columbia, from 1979-1981. He also attended a semester at the University of Toronto in 1982.
His work experience includes one year as a researcher for the Dene Nation from 1982 to 1983, then from 1983 to 1985 as a community development worker for the Liidlii Kue First Nation of Fort Simpson, NT. During the summer of 1984, Mr. Menicoche was employed by the Federal Government as a Logistics Coordinator for the Task Force on the Papal Visit. He worked for Enbridge Pipelines Inc. as a Senior Maintenance Technician, from 1985 to 2003. He also filled the role of Safety Officer from 2000 to 2003 at Enbridge.
His political experience includes two years as a councilor for the Village of Fort Simpson and six years as a Councilor for the Liidlii Kue First Nation.
Kevin has three children: one son Keone and two daughters, Diedra and Candace. Other recreational interests include slo-pitch softball, hockey, jigging to fiddle music and bird watching.
