Info | Jody Fancey (nee Canning) was born in Bishop’s Falls on January 18, 1970 to parents Phonse and Barbara Canning (nee Bouzane).
Shortly after completing her high school education at Leo Burke Academy in Bishop’s Falls, Jody went on to pursue a degree in psychology from Memorial University. She is currently completing a Commerce Degree through the University of Athabasca.
Over the past six years Jody has been working in the field of economic development within a rural context. She has been employed as Business Retention and Expansion Coordinator with the Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation, and Executive Director of the former Bishop’s Falls Development Corporation. Jody’s work experience and education provides her with an intimate understanding of business administration and its principals.
In 2005 Jody was elected Mayor of Bishop’s Falls, bringing strong leadership and fresh approaches to the community. In her role as Mayor, she served on several high profile committees including Finance, Economic Development, and Labour Relations. She was also instrumental in striking the Bishop’s Falls Community Development Task Force, which she also chaired, that completed a strategic community development plan in June 2007 (social and economic focus).
On a regional level Jody was Chair of the Exploits Valley Joint Council, a political organization comprised of municipal officials from the region. She is currently a volunteer with organizations such as the Newfoundland and Labrador Economic Developers’ Association and, when needed, the Bishop’s Falls Concerned Parents Committee. In addition, she has also served as director of the Exploits Valley Chamber of Commerce and Exploits Valley Tourism Association.
Jody is married to Glenn Fancey of Bishop’s Falls, are they are the proud parents of three children, Nickolas, Riley, and Leah.
