Wilson Fields was born November 27, 1968, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Mrs. Alice Fields Thomas and the late Isadore Fields. He is married to Chapreca Fields. Wilson is a 1986 graduate of Capitol Senior High School.

Upon graduating from Capitol, Wilson attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. While attending Southern University, Wilson was on the Dean's List and represented the University in various conventions and capacities. Wilson is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. During his senior year at Southern University, Wilson served as President of the Student Government Association while simultaneously serving as the student member on the Louisiana Board of Regents.

Wilson is a member of the Greater New Guide Baptist Church, Reverend Isaiah Webster- Pastor. Wilson received his Juris Doctorate Degree in May 1994 from the Southern University Law Center and is now a practicing Attorney in Louisiana. He was elected to serve on the Democratic State Central Committee from 1991 until 1995 and was elected to be a 1996 Delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Wilson was elected to the Baton Rouge City Council at the age of 23 and became the youngest to ever serve as a City Council member in Baton Rouge's history. In just 8 short months, he was elected as Chairman of the Capital Improvements Committee. Approximately one year later, his colleagues elected him to chair the Finance and Executive Committee. In the November 1994 issue of Ebony Magazine, Wilson was featured among the 30 Most Influential Young Black Leaders of America. On November 18, 1995, Wilson at the age of 26, was elected to serve as Louisiana State Senator District - 15 and is the youngest State Senator currently serving in the Louisiana Legislature. In just six short months as a State Senator, members of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus elected him to serve as their 1st Vice Chairman. Wilson serves on the following committees: Commerce Committee, Education Committee, and Judiciary C Committee. In addition he serves on the Joint Capital Outlay Committee and the Legislative Audit Advisory Committee. In addition, Sen. Fields is also an instructor on the campus of Southern University and an Adjunct Professor at the Southern University Law Center.
