Info | Lee Harder was born in Spencer, Iowa in 1960 to Harold and Irene Harder. Lee is a loving father to his 13 year old son Daniel. Daniel has lived with Lee since the April of 2004 and Lee has sole custody.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Political Science and Masters of Religious Education from Liberty University.
Lee has worked in Conservative and Republican Politics all of his adult life, either in Washington D.C. or as a volunteer on the local level, with the exclusion of the four years he was in the Army.
He served on the Republican Central Committees of three Iowa Counties: Dubuque, Cedar and Henry Counties and has worked hard to see Republicans elected to office in Iowa. He was a Delegate for Cedar County during the 2nd Congressional District Convention in Cedar Rapids in the year 2000.
When he worked for The Conservative Caucus (a grass-roots lobbying group) in the early 1980's. He helped direct the activities of 40 State Coordinators and over 235 Congressional District Directors.
Lee attended on a weekly basis meetings hosted by The Committee for the Survival of a Free Congress. These meetings were attended regularly by Congressional Staff and leaders of Conservative Organizations. Lee effectively presented ideas that provided for this Nations National defense, economic well being. Lee also worked to promote Pro-life and Pro-family issues.
Lee wrote bi-weekly Legislative Alerts that went out to The Conservative Caucus' Grass-root Legislative Network of Conservative activists. From time to time this team of activist was also called into action by The Conservative Caucus' phone bank to quickly bring about grass-roots support for key votes in Congressional Committee's and on the floor of the U.S. House and Senate.
In 1984 Lee Harder had the privilege of delivering 400,000 petitions calling for a 10% Flat Tax to the Treasury Department to Ronald Reagan's Treasury secretary Donald Regan. This led Donald Regan to begin a study on tax reform which led to the 1986 Tax Reform Bill. This bill helped to simplify tax forms and lower taxes for taxpayers.
During the time Lee worked in Washington, Lee also did work for The National Defense Council, Teenage Republicans and for Gary Rice for Congress Campaign.
While serving in the Army from 1991 to 1995 Lee received The Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious Achievement. He served as a Chaplain Assistant and as an Environmental Compliance Control Officer for his Battalion.
In 1997 Lee served as Acting Director of Army Education at the Rock Island Arsenal while the Director recovered from open heart surgery.
Since 1999 he has served the State of Iowa as a State employed Chaplain.
Lee as Chaplain coordinates the activities many different religious groups and over 100 religious volunteers.
Lee believes strongly in Freedom of Religion and in protecting our Constitutional Rights.
As Chaplain he has worked to ensure the Religious Liberty of all, while preserving the integrity of his own.
Prior to being a Chaplain Lee worked as an over-the-road trucker. His diverse background makes him uniquely qualified to serve the citizens of the 2nd Congressional District as their Representative. He can understand both White Collar and Blue Collar workers and their needs.
