Info | KEIM, William High, (nephew of George May Keim), a Representative from Pennsylvania; born near Reading, Pa., on June 13, 1813; attended Mount Airy Military School and attained the rank of major general of militia; mayor of Reading in 1848; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of J. Glancy Jones and served from December 7, 1858, to March 3, 1859; was not a candidate for renomination in 1858; surveyor general of Pennsylvania 1860-1862; during the Civil War enlisted in the Union Army and was commissioned a major general of Pennsylvania Volunteers on April 20, 1861; honorably mustered out on July 21, 1861; commissioned brigadier general of Volunteers December 20, 1861; died in the military service at Harrisburg, Pa., May 18, 1862; interment in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading, Berks County, Pa.
