| Info | An award-winning international scientist and community activist who has lived in Richmond Hill for the past 16 years, Reza Moridi looks forward to the opportunity of representing his community at the provincial level.
As an immigrant from Iran, Reza understands first-hand the importance of having a responsible government that will work to build opportunities so that families can grow and prosper.
Educated in Iran and the UK, Reza obtained a PhD in Physics from Brunel University in the UK. He worked as a professor and senior lecturer in physics. He was a professor in Tehran at the time when the revolutionary government closed all universities. Reza and his family fled the country in 1987 to Fiji, where he continued teaching. Three years later, in 1990, he and his family immigrated to Canada. Reza didn’t have any work, but he worked hard to establish himself. Within three months he obtained a job as a scientist.
Reza is currently the Vice-President and Chief Scientist with an independent organization where he has been for 17 years. His work has been recognized with two prestigious awards, including one from the Health Physics Society in the US for his contributions to Health Physics. He also received an award from the Canadian Nuclear Society for his work in promoting radiation protection and safety issues.
He is an active community volunteer and his accomplishments include work as a founding member of the Bam Earthquake Disaster Relief Committee where he helped raise over $100,000 for reconstruction of an orphanage in Iran after a deadly earthquake.
Reza lives in Richmond Hill with his wife, two children and two grandchildren.
