Info | For the past 40 years, Joe Dickson has devoted himself to serving his community of Ajax-Pickering. As Ward 2 Councillor for Ajax, he has earned a reputation as a strong and dedicated representative. Now, he is focusing his attention on provincial politics.
Joe first entered politics as a Catholic School board trustee in 1970. His public service continued to include terms as Councillor, Regional Councillor and Deputy-Mayor of Ajax. Along the way, Joe served on untold community committees, boards and agencies in various capacities.
A devoted community volunteer, Joe has founded and chaired many charitable and civic organizations, including Durham’s Waste Reduction Week Challenge, Ajax-Pickering Multiple Sclerosis Walkathon, the Waterfront Advisory Committee, Easter Seals, Industrial Cancer drive, Kinsmen Skate-A-Thon, Ajax Home Week, Ajax Environmental Affairs Week and many more.
For the last four decades, Joe has put his efforts into supporting and promoting healthy exercise and athletic competition for both young and old. He continues to sponsor over 22 children’s, women’s and men’s sports teams, in sports covering basketball, baseball, slo-pitch softball, hockey, lacrosse, ringette and soccer.
His commitment to improve the community extends through his annual Joe Dickson Charity Golf Tournament, now in it’s 14th year. It is one of the largest charity tournaments in Durham region, benefiting various charities (including 8 food banks) in his home community.
In private life, he has been the President of Dickson Printing for the past 45 years. For over a decade of those years, Joe was the Canadian Chairman of the Stationers Marketing of Canada, a group of 47 retailers in eight provinces. As a successful small businessman, he knows the needs and concerns of that sector of the economy.
His devotion and service to the community has been recognized by the numerous awards he has received over the years, including the Queen Elizabeth 50th Anniversary Medal for Service to his Community and Canada in 2002.
Joe lives in Ajax with his wife, Donna. They have two grown children, Jim and Joanna.
The community minded Dickson is running as a McGuinty Liberal because he believes in the progress this government is making across the province. Joe believes that more has to be done, but knows that the Ontario Liberals are the only party who are up to the challenge.
