Info | Governor Jeb Bush appointed Jose �Pepe� Cancio, Sr., a successful businessman and community activist, to the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners on May 3rd, 2002.
Commissioner Cancio was born in Havana, Cuba on December 30, 1939 and moved to the United States at age 21 after disagreeing with the Communists regime and Fidel Castro. A member of the Bay of Pigs 2506 Brigade, Commissioner Cancio also volunteered in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He has worked in the concrete industry for four decades and is currently the President and C.E.O. of Supermix Concrete with headquarters in Miami, Florida and 250 employees.
Commissioner Cancio, 62, lives in Doral where he was elected and served on the Community Council from 1996 to 2000. He is married to Mariana Casta�eda Cancio, has four children and 13 grandchildren.
