InfoSHANNON, Joseph Bernard, a Representative from Missouri; born in St. Louis, Mo., March 17, 1867; attended the public schools of St. Louis and Spalding Business College, Kansas City, Mo.; moved with his parents to Girard, Kans., in early youth; upon the death of his father moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1879; became constable in the justice court in 1890; was city market-master in 1892 and served two years; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1905 and commenced practice in Kansas City, Mo.; chairman of the Democratic State committee in 1910; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1908, 1912, 1920, 1924, 1928, 1932, and 1940; member of the Missouri constitutional conventions in 1922 and 1923; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second and the five succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1931-January 3, 1943); was not a candidate for renomination in 1942; died in Kansas City, Mo., March 28, 1943; interment in Calvary Cemetery.
