InfoPete Maurer retired in 2008 from the N.J. State Treasury after 31 years. For the past 10 years he has served as a staff representative with CWA (Communication Workers of America) Local 1033, which represents state workers. He is also pastor of Third Reformed Church in Raritan (Somerset County) and co-pastor of Manville Reformed Church. He graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He has a master of arts from Brown University in Providence, R.I., a master's degree in library science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, a master's of divinity degree from New Brunswick Theological Seminary and is a candidate for a doctoral degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He became a certified employee benefits specialist through a program at the Wharton School and is a member of the International Federation of Employee Benefit Plans.

Maurer moved to Hunterdon County from Hopewell Township in 1998. In Hopewell he was elected to the Fire Commission where he served as the founding chairman and as treasurer. He was on the Hopewell Township Board of Fire Commissioners, a member of the township Historical Commission, and the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad (president). He was also the treasurer's representative to the N.J. State Historic Trust, and the Catastrophic Illness in Children's Relief Fund. Maurer was elected a state trustee for the N.J. Public Employees' Retirement System.

He has been married to Beth for 40 years. They have two children.
