Info | CLARK, Henry Alden, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Harborcreek Township, Erie County, Pa., January 7, 1850; attended the common schools and the Erie Academy in 1864, the State normal school, Edinboro, Pa., in 1865 and 1866, and Willoughby Collegiate Institute, Willoughby, Ohio, in 1866 and 1867; taught school; was graduated from the Erie Central High School in 1870, from Harvard University in 1874, and from Harvard Law School in 1877; was admitted to the bar in Fall River, Mass., in March 1878; subsequently associated with the Edison electric light interests in New York; moved to Erie, Pa., in 1882, continuing with the Edison corporation until 1887; was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar May 9, 1884; member of the common council of Erie in 1888; bought and edited the Erie Gazette 1890-1892; chairman of the Republican city and county committees in 1890; city solicitor of Erie from July 11, 1896, until April 30, 1899; served in the State senate in 1911, 1913, and 1915; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1917-March 3, 1919); was not a candidate for renomination in 1918 to the Sixty-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of his profession; judge of the orphans’ court for Erie County 1921-1931; died in Erie, Pa., on February 15, 1944; interment in Erie Cemetery.
