Info | Representative from Florida; born in Ocilla, Irwin County, Ga., June 4, 1921; at the age of four years moved with his parents to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; attended the public schools; was graduated from the University of Florida at Gainesville, in 1942; during the Second World War served in the Field Artillery, United States Army, with service in the European Theater; studied law at George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1946, and graduated from the University of Florida in 1948; was admitted to the bar in 1948 and commenced the practice of law in West Palm Beach, Fla.; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-fourth Congress, by special election, January 11, 1955, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, Dwight L. Rogers; reelected to the eleven succeeding Congresses and served from January 11, 1955, to January 3, 1979; was not a candidate for reelection in 1978 to the Ninety-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; member of the board of Merck & Co. and Mutual Life Insurance Co. of New York; is a resident of West Palm Beach, Fla.
