Info | Julian Garrett has lived in Warren County for almost 40 years. He is an attorney with an office in Indianola and an active farmer in the southern part of Warren County. He grew up on a farm where he learned about hard work and personal responsibility. He has raised purebred Charolais cattle for many years.
Julian is a graduate of Central College in Pella, and the University of Iowa Law School. He is a lifelong Republican and has been a member of the Warren County Republican Central Committee for more than 30 years. He served as Ronald Reagan's Chair in the old 5th Congressional District in 1976 and 1984.
Though he has had more than his share of personal tragedy (he lost his wife to cancer and a son to diabetes) Julian has 3 sons and an optimistic view of the future. The 2 older boys, Ryan and Jeff, are taking engineering classes at Iowa State, and the youngest, Jonathan, will be a freshman at Indianola High School in the fall of 2006.
Always willing to give his time to our young people, Julian was a volunteer Little league and soccer coach in Indianola for more than 12 years. He served on the Indianola Little League Board of Directors for a number of years and directed the Indianola Little League post season tournament for Warren and surrounding counties for several years. In addition he coached Middle School Mock Trial teams, two of which reached the State Tournament.
He is a long time Farm Bureau member. Julian is a member of the Lutheran Church. Unlike his Democrat opponent, he has experience in State government. He served 12 years as Assistant Attorney General in Charge of Consumer Protection, when that office was first established. During that time he was fighting to rid the market place of con-men and frauds. He worked with the legislature promoting legislation to fight frauds and swindles. It was widely acknowledged that the office was was well run and that the public was well served.
