Info | FORREST, Thomas, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1747; attended the common schools; during the Revolutionary War was commissioned a captain in Col. Thomas Proctor’s Pennsylvania Artillery October 5, 1776, promoted to major March 3, 1777, and lieutenant colonel December 2, 1778; resigned October 7, 1781; elected as a Federalist to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1819-March 3, 1821); chairman, Committee on Agriculture (Sixteenth Congress); elected as a Federalist to the Seventeenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William Milnor and served from October 8, 1822, to March 3, 1823; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1822 to the Eighteenth Congress; died in Germantown (now a part of Philadelphia), Pa., March 20, 1825.
