InfoAaron M. Kromash was born in 1968 and raised in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where he attended public schools, graduated as valedictorian, and became a National Merit Scholar. He received a B.A. in International Relations from Pomona College in 1990 and an M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University in 1997. Aaron is a fluent speaker of Japanese and has worked as a self-employed translator for the past 10 years. As a resident of Mount Holly, he has been active in forming an Environmental Commission to advise the municipal government on environmental matters.

In the Third Congressional District race, Aaron is a candidate with extensive international experience gained through research, study, and travel. He is highly familiar with issues related to energy policy, agriculture policy, and U.S. trade relations, all of which are closely related to the quality of our air, water, and food in southern New Jersey. On a local level, Aaron sees a need for further open space preservation, more durable and energy-efficient construction, public transportation that substitutes for private vehicle use, and organic farming to supply food locally.

The Third District faces substantial environmental challenges. Developers with close ties to the GOP-dominated county leadership continue to consume the agricultural and pine forest land of the region, violating the law with impunity. In return, they provide only identical, tract-housing eyesores that shift the cost of good construction from builder to owner in the form of higher energy costs and shorter building life. Threats of renewed ocean dumping pose a risk to marine life and coastal sanitation. Proposed dredging of the Delaware to accommodate larger ships will bring larger environmental hazards. Superfund and military waste sites languish untreated, and the Oyster Creek nuclear plant continues operation as one of the oldest and dirtiest nuclear facilities in the entire country. These and other environmental issues represent the highest legislative priorities for Aaron M. Kromash as candidate for Congress.

Health care reform, revitalized public education, and campaign finance reform are also high priorities for Candidate Kromash. In Congress, Aaron would work to reduce health care costs comprehensively, by providing universal coverage, eliminating HMOs, implementing federal oversight of drug and medical device companies, and legislating tort reform to rid the courts of frivolous personal injury lawsuits. Aaron's educational initiatives include improved teacher training and compensation; a statewide regents examination for public school students; and financial mechanisms to equalize resources across districts, independent of property tax values.

In the next 25 years, the U.S. energy and transportation industries will experience shifts in technology as fundamental as those occurring in the computer and telephone industries today. Even today, clean sources such as wind and solar power could generate most of the U.S.' electricity, and fuel cells and hybrid engines may soon provide our transportation. This technology is ready now, without the need for expensive government subsidies. Despite this fact, the U.S. is losing these fields to European competitors who are better supported by consumers and legislators alike. What is needed is an opening of minds, not purse strings.

In Congress, Aaron M. Kromash will be a strong advocate for national initiatives to increase renewable energy production, create a nationwide rail system designed to reduce trucking and travel by automobile, and decentralize agriculture so that food is produced where food is consumed. Through programs such as revised national building codes, Interstate-to-rail conversion, and community supported agriculture, Congressman Kromash will stand in the forefront of legislators working to convert our national economy to one based on sustainable practices.
