Info | As a long-time fisherman and life-long resident of Belfast - Murray River, Charlie McGeoghegan believes the provincial government has a central role to play in ensuring that rural Prince Edward Island thrives and prospers. Charlie is concerned about the future of the farming, fishing, and tourism industries.
"It is discouraging that so many young Islanders have to leave our province every year to make money out west - only to return and find the situation hasn't improved. We need a government that will take rural renewal seriously."
Charlie also sees the negative impact of high gas prices, increased taxes and other costs on our primary producers. He is proud to be part of Robert Ghiz's new Liberal Team and eager to start working to bring about renewal in rural communities.
Charlie has been a vocal advocate for the fishing industry. He serves as President of the Central Northumberland Strait Fishermen's Association; is a Director of the Prince Edward Island Fishermen's Association; a volunteer member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary; and also serves on the Board of Advisors for the University of Maine's Lobster Institute.
Charlie lives in Belfast with his wife Connie and their three
children: Stephen, Courtney, and Daniel.
