Info | Congressman Ed Pease (R-IN) was elected to the 105th Congress on November 5, 1996, having come from a background of public service in the Hoosier state at both the local and state levels. Since his election, Ed has been appointed to the Judiciary Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. On the Judiciary Committee, he serves on the Courts and Intellectual Property Subcommittee and the Immigration and Claims Subcommittee. On the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, he serves on the Surface Transportation Subcommittee and Aviation Subcommittee.
His first elective office was as a State Senator in the Indiana General Assembly. Mr. Pease served as a State Senator from 1980 through 1992. While there, he worked on numerous committees, including service as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman of the Indiana Commission on Trial Courts, and Chairman of the Indiana Code Revision Commission.
In the private sector, Ed served as the City Attorney for the City of Brazil and as General Counsel for Indiana State University. He has also worked as partner in the law firm of Thomas, Thomas & Pease. In 1993, Ed became Vice President for University Advancement at Indiana State University.
Throughout his career, the Congressman has been committed to service in the community. Since earning his Eagle Scout as a youth, he has received numerous awards and distinctions from the Boy Scouts of America. He has served as a member of the Advisory Council on the National Council of BSA and is currently Chairman for the National Order of the Arrow Committee. In addition to his efforts with the Boy Scouts, Ed has also served as National Director of Alumni Affairs, a Chapter Advisor, and National President of the Pi Kappa Alpha National Fraternity. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Interfraternity Conference.
Ed was born on May 22, 1951, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from Indiana University in 1973. He received his J.D. degree, Cum Laude, from Indiana University in 1977, and went on to pursue post-graduate study in English from Indiana State University. A native Hoosier, Ed resides near Seelyville, Indiana.
