Info | Diana Christina Broomell
In 1998 Diana along with many other concerned citizens founded the 21st Century Republican Club. The 21st Century Republican Club recently cosponsored (along with the Democrat Club and Partnership for Cecil County) the Cecil Land Use Forum. Diana has long been active in the Club serving as its President and Vice President and was instrumental in promoting the Elected School Board issue by coordinating a petition drive. Serving as Chairman of the Elected School Board Ballot Issue, she helped garner 88% of the vote when the ballot issue went to referendum in the 2004 election. Diana was elected to the Republican Central Committee in 2002 and currently serves as Vice Chair. In 2002 she was recognized by the Maryland Republican Party as Woman Republican of the Year. She was also County campaign coordinator in 2002 and 2004 and was instrumental in Cecil County receiving the 2004 Voter Registration County of the Year.
Diana has lived in Colora for over 21 years with her husband Mark and their two children Christina, 23 and Mark Jr. 18. The Broomell's have attended Grace Bible Chapel for over 15 years. Diana has worked eight years for Michael Smigiel who is a local attorney as well as a delegate of the 36th district.
Name and title: Diana Broomell is manager of Havre de Grace Main Street, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes and enhances the historic character and economic vitality of the city’s downtown business district.
Personal background: “My father was career Army. He met and married my mother in Munich, Germany,” Broomell said. Her family, which includes two brothers, lived in many places in Germany and the United States, with the Aberdeen Proving Ground being the last stop before her father’s retirement. After graduating from Aberdeen High School, she earned a business education degree at Cecil Community College. She met her husband when both were 17. They have been married for 28 years and have two adult children.
Professional background: Broomell owned and managed a veteran’s assisted living home in Perryville for 15 years. She was a legal secretary for eight years and was a legislative aide for a state delegate. Broomell helps in her husband’s business, Vintage Woodworks, which specializes in antique hardwood floor refinishing, repair and manufacturing.
