| Info | Vera Jean-White has been a Harrisburg City Councilwoman since 1992 and a community activist and children’s advocate for her entire adult life. A native of Winsboro, Louisiana and a graduate of Franklin Parish Training School, Councilwoman Reynolds attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Education from the United Bible College and Seminary in 1988, and has also received specialized management certification from Elizabethtown College.
Councilwoman White career of meaningful public service began in 1968 with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Health. Following a transfer to the Department of Education, Councilwoman White quickly distinguished herself with her organizational skills and abilities, rising to the position of Program Administrator for the Bureau of Basic Education Fiscal Administration Child Nutrition Unit. Her consuming passion for the care and betterment of our children led to her appointment as the Executive Director of the Harrisburg School District’s first-ever After School Program. She currently serves as the Parent Educator for the Tri-County Opportunities Industrialization Center.
Councilwoman White has further distinguished herself through her many volunteer contributions and services to such efforts as the National Literacy Conference, Black Women’s Caucus, Harrisburg Sparkettes, Jack and Jill of America and many other. She has served as the Chairwoman of Harrisburg School District’s FACT Council, the Tri-County Children and Youth Coordinating Council, as a member of the Board of Managers of the Camp Curtin Area Branch of the YMCA, and as a Coordinator of the Committee for Safer Schools, amongst many other charitable endeavors. She is currently serving on several national boards and committees under the auspices of the National League of Cities.
