Info | Chip Pickering of Laurel, Mississippi is currently serving his third term as a member of the United States Congress. He represents the Third District of Mississippi which encompasses the east-central portion of the state. Congressman Pickering serves on the Energy & Commerce Committee as well as the Agriculture Committee. These committees have jurisdiction over issues including telecommunications, trade, energy, health care, agriculture and environmental policy.
Pickering serves as Co-Chairman of the Congressional Wireless Caucus, focusing on policy issues affecting the rapidly growing wireless telecommunications industry which is an important component of Mississippis economy. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the Congressional Sportsmens Caucus, an organization dedicated to preserving the Americans traditional rights of hunting, fishing, conservation, and other outdoor activities. Pickering also serves as an assistant whip in the House of Representatives.
Prior to his election to Congress, Pickering worked as a staff member for U.S. Senator Trent Lott, an appointee in the Bush Administration at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and successfully pioneered the first full-time presence by a southern Baptist missionary behind the Iron Curtain in Budapest, Hungary. Pickering completed an MBA degree at Baylor University and a BA degree in Business Administration at the University of Mississippi. He is a product of Laurel public schools. He and his wife, Leisha, have five young sons, Will, Ross, Jackson, Asher, and Harper
