Info | DARROW, George Potter, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Waterford, New London County, Conn., February 4, 1859; attended the common schools of New London, Conn.; was graduated from Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., in 1880; moved to Philadelphia, Pa., in 1888 and engaged in banking, in the manufacture of paints, and in the insurance business; president of the Twenty-second Sectional School Board of Philadelphia 1906-1909; member of the Philadelphia Common Council 1910-1915; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1915-January 3, 1937); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1936 to the Seventy-fifth Congress; elected to the Seventy-sixth Congress (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1941); was not a candidate for renomination in 1940; died in Philadelphia, Pa., June 7, 1943; interment in Ivy Hill Mausoleum.
