Info | For 25 years, I owned and managed a management consulting firm emphasizing computer-based solutions for business and government clients throughout southern Ontario. My education includes B.Sc. and MBA degrees, and designation as a Chartered Financial Planner. A lifelong member of the Libertarian Party, I also ran for MP in the 2006 Federal election. My wife Gail and I are retired and currently live in Meaford, enjoying the natural beauty of the area and its many recreational opportunities. We have four children and five grandchildren.
Why Are You Running?:
When I was in business, we had a saying: results count; and only results count.
I believe that we have effective answers to major problems; answers that produce quick results.
I am unhappy that far too much of the taxpayer's money is spent without results. Debt is too high and is getting higher. Citizens need more say in how their money is spent, including referendums on any major new program or expenditure.
All governments must adapt to becoming purchasers of services, not providers of those services.
We like to think of ourselves as watchdogs for the consumer. Each of us is a consumer and the government is the store. We shop for good value but we're not getting it. When that happens in other areas of our lives, we look for a good alternative. We don't want a store - or the government - to tell us we can't shop elsewhere. We need choices and value.
Your Top Issue:
Health Care
Issue Details:
Health care requires alternative and better solutions. Eight years of effort by the current government to improve health care, and the results are in; unfortunately for us all, a failing report card. On August 23, 2011, the president of the Canadian Medical Association had this to say: "We have seen a slow and steady decline in what we would all now agree is a deeply troubled health-care system." “But times have changed and Canada now ranks below Slovenia in terms of effectiveness and last or second last in terms of value for money. " It is far from neighbourly to deny any alternatives to someone ill or suffering - let us show that we care, and allow freedom of choice for health care, to achieve better results. Advantages ? Very quick implementation at little cost to the consumer. Better care for those in need of it. Reduced wait times for all, reduced cost for OHIP, lower taxes for all.
