Info | GRAHAM, William Harrison, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Allegheny (now part of Pittsburgh), Pa., August 3, 1844; attended the public schools; during the Civil War enlisted on April 5, 1861, in the Second Regiment, Virginia Infantry (Union Army), which, after a service of two years, was mounted and became the Fifth Regiment, West Virginia Cavalry; mustered out June 14, 1864; engaged in the leather business in Allegheny, Pa.; member of the State house of representatives 1875-1878; recorder of deeds of Allegheny County 1882-1891; engaged in banking; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William A. Stone; reelected to the Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses and served from November 29, 1898, to March 3, 1903; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1902 to the Fifty-eighth Congress; elected to the Fifty-ninth, Sixtieth, and Sixty-first Congresses (March 4, 1905-March 3, 1911); chairman, Committee on Ventilation and Acoustics (Sixtieth Congress), Committee on Expenditures in the Department of Agriculture (Sixty-first Congress); unsuccessful candidate in the Republican primaries for renomination; member of the Allegheny County Board of Viewers 1911-1923; died in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 2, 1923; interment in Highwood Cemetery.
