This will be Gawlik's first run for public office. In 2005, he served as the field director for Ed Pawlowski's campaign for Allentown mayor, in which he coordinated get-out-the-vote efforts and other tasks.
He was elected to the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee in 2006 and serves on the committee's Executive Board.
Gawlik, who lives in the city's West End with his wife and 4-year-old daughter, has been a city firefighter since 1995. Before then, he served as a volunteer firefighter with the Woodlawn Fire Company in South Whitehall Township for about four years.
