InfoJohn Cappello is a native of the City of Dallas and grew up in the north Dallas area. A world traveler at the age of 15, John went to over seven European countries and started to learn about other cultures. It was this time he developed a sense of history, purpose, and an appreciation of other points of view. It was on this trip he re-established a relationship with both sides of his Sicilian heritage family after very little contact for over 60 years.

He is a graduate of Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas where he served as the student body president and was the recipient of the Most Outstanding Achievement Award. He attended the University of Dallas as a Dallas Scholar and obtained a full academic scholarship during his undergraduate career. John lived at the Rome, Italy campus of the University of Dallas in 1976 where he spent one full semester. He graduated with a bachelors' degree in economics in 1979. A full tuition assistantship was awarded to John for graduate school where he received a Master's in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Management at the University of Dallas with an emphasis in finance in 1980.

The son of Salvatore and Lena Cappello he grew up in the family businesses. John's father was well known in the Dallas area for having a very popular grocery store featuring Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern foods. Items common in super markets today were, at one time, only available at Cappello's in the 1960's. Salvatore Cappello was a pioneer in the Dallas area food market. He introduced such brands as Precious Ricotta Cheese to Dallas, he was the first to sell mozzarella cheese in cryovac packaging, and was the first to introduce string cheese to Dallas.

In 1979, John's father moved his business interests to West Dallas where he struggled to prosper until his death in 1992. This is when John took over the family business and began to understand the difficulties of working in an area with a host of chronic issues. West Dallas was known for high crime, environmental issues, economic challenges, housing, and racial problems. It was at this time he developed an interest in working in the community.

John joined the West Dallas Business Association in 1994 and quickly became a board member. In 2002 the business association changed its' name and became the West Dallas Chamber of Commerce. John became the Chairman of the Board and President shortly after the name changed.

John's professional career has been varied. A background in the food industry he was a food broker for 20 years. He owned his own franchise pizza delivery business, a holiday gift business catering to business owners wanting to give their employees a holiday food item instead of a gift certificate, and a vending business. John managed his father's real estate holdings for many years and this gave him the impetus to start his own real estate company.

John has been recognized by the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives for his tenure in the chamber of commerce business and has recently received an award from the West Dallas Community Church. This award is the Arvell Wilson Sr. Award given out for outstanding service to the West Dallas Community. He is a recent graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Citizen's Academy. He serves on the Board of the Trinity Commons Foundation, the Lakewest and Oak Cliff YMCA's, and has worked on many projects concerning the City of Dallas for the past 12 years.

John is a husband and father of four children. He resides in Dallas with his wife and children. It is John's belief that it is one's faith and trust in God that give us the opportunity to be fulfilled in life. He lives every day serving God by serving his fellow man.
