InfoDr. The Honourable Omar Davies assumed office as Minister of Transport, Works and Housing in January, 2012. Since commencing his duties, his main focus has been streamlining the operations of the ministry and its various agencies.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Davies served as Minister of Finance and Planning from December, 1993 to August, 2007 as well as Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Dr. Davies possesses significant academic and financial experience, having attained the former as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of the West Indies (1981-1989) and the latter as Director General of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) (1989-1993).

A graduate of the University of the West Indies and Northwestern University in the USA where he received a doctorate in Economics, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Ivy League institution, Stanford University in California from 1973-1976 before returning home to Jamaica.
