After graduating from Shiprock High School, Dayish went on to attend Junior College, where he earned an Associated of Arts Degree, majoring in Business Administration from San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico.
Dayish received his Bachelors of Business Administration from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1987. In continuing his education, he received his Master's degree in General Administration with specific studies in Financial and General Management from the University of Maryland in 1994.
He served in the United States Marine Corp., from 1976 to 1979 as a Radio Operator. He established an operated his own business, the Reflection Auto Center, an automotive service operation, which he ran from 1980 until 1985. In 1996, he worked as a Contracting Officer for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and in 1985 began his tenure with BHP, where during his employment worked at the Navajo Coal Company as a Safety and Minerals Department Supervisor from 1995 until 1999, then to the San Juan Coal Company where he worked as a Safety and Supply Supervisor from 1999 to 2001, then to BHP Billiton and served as the Senior Governmental Affairs Representative.
He also currently serves as the President of the Native American Church of North America. His hobbies include breeding and training show Appaloosa horses. Dayish is a member of the International Colored Horse Club and operates a family farm.
