Sue Walton, a retired teacher received her Bachelors and Masters in Education from Eastern Illinois University and taught in High School District 211 (primarily Palatine High School) for twenty years. She taught Home Economics and coordinated a work-study program. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1982, Vocational Teacher of Year in 1981, and "Outstanding Educator Award" by the Pioneer Press for her Drug and Alcohol Awareness Program. Walton continues to work even after her retirement from District 211 in 1991. Since that time she has worked with the Elgin YWCA March Of Dimes Healthy Babies Project and as a Career Specialist at Harper College Women's Program where she helped displaced homemakers and single parents returning to the work force. Currently, Walton is working at Elgin High School as a Career Specialist.
Walton has actively supported and implemented services to help Illinois families and children through her volunteer efforts. Her activities began in Palatine Township in 1976, with the Community Child Care Center, a nonprofit child care agency where she served on the board for eleven years. As board president, she assisted in securing a permanent home for the center in the Palatine Township Building. Walton is founding state president, of Illinois Parents Anonymous, (know now as Parents Care and Share of Illinois) where she has served for fourteen years. She serves as the state -chair for the Annual Blue Bow Campaign each April to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. She received the Distinguished Life Time Trustee Award for volunteer work for Children Home & Aide Society Illinois in 2000.
Walton serves as the Palatine Township Democratic Committeeman and resides in Plum Grove Creek just eight houses from her grandson, daughter and son-in-law. Walton has one other daughter, son -in-law and granddaughter that reside in Schaumburg.
